Sokratis Sinopoulos

Sokratis Sinopoulos was born in Athens. He studied classical guitar and at the same time Byzantine music and folk song. In 1988 he started studying lyra and lute with Ross Daly and a year later he became a member of the ensemble “Labyrinth”. Since then, he has collaborated with excellent soloists from Greece and abroad, participating in recordings and concerts around the world. Among others, he has recorded for Blue Note with Charles Lloyd, for Harmonia Mundi with Jean Quihen Queyras and for Fuga Libera with the ensemble L’Achéron.

In 2015, ECM Records released the first album of his quartet titled “Eight Winds” (ECM 2407), which received excellent reviews internationally; while in March 2019 followed the second album titled “Metamodal” (ECM 2631). In 1999 he was awarded by the Ministry of Culture with the State Award for Young Artists: “Melina Mercouri”. Today he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia.
