Costis Zouliatis

He was born in Athens and studied music at the Ionian University at Corfu, where he received his PhD. He is a founding member of various musical ensembles and at the same time he is active as a composer and improviser while he is also involved in education. He has composed music for theatrical plays, performances, short films and documentaries, while he has directed short films, music videos and documentaries. He has made solo appearances and has collaborated with many musicians, organised and participated in stage projects (NOUAR, Tribute to Miltos Sachtouris), and has also been a member of the Ionian University Free Improvisation Ensemble, through which he made important stage collaborations (Savina Yannatou, Joe Tornabene, Nikos Veliotis, Dimos Dimitriadis, etc). He has also collaborated with many musicians (Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Maria Koti, Nikos Papavranousis, etc) either as a member of “Night On Earth” or in solo works. In terms of discography, he has released –under the alias Costinho– the personal works “3” (2014) and “2” (2017), as well as collective works with groups such as “Night On Earth” and “Ta Riza”, while he has participated in recordings of many ensembles and musicians. As a researcher, he has been studying for more than 15 years the life and work of Jani Christou –in addition to creating the documentary– having written his doctoral dissertation on the philosophical thought of the composer, while preparing the publication of a monograph. His musicological activity includes articles on aspects of the avant-garde music of the 20th century (Luigi Nono, Alban Berg, John Coltrane, post-war avant-garde).
