Soundroutes (www.soundroutes.eu) is an international initiative to promote the social inclusion of remote and excluded communities through music. Building on the success of previous Soundroutes programmes, this new edition aims to tap into the powerful transformative power of hip hop culture. Launched in 2016 as a response to the refugee crisis in Europe, Soundroutes has evolved into a platform that fosters collaboration between artists from various backgrounds and cultures. In particular, it has given rise to a network of hip hop artists, demonstrating the genre’s ability to transcend cultural boundaries.
This project aims to harness the global appeal of hip hop to achieve multiple objectives: from developing the professional and social skills of hip hop artists, with a focus on disadvantaged environments, to creating a European network of hip hop artists committed to spreading messages of social inclusion, climate justice and gender equality through their art.
The Soundroutes project is co-funded by the European Union and is implemented by the Asud Association in cooperation with the organisations Marmaduke (Spain), Chios Music Festival (Greece) and De Koer (Belgium).
Actions
The Soundroutes initiative includes several actions. From creating local hubs for the promotion and training of hip hop talent, to offering an online course on the music industry, and organising international bootcamps. Soundroutes also aims to create a collaborative digital platform and promote a competition dedicated to women in hip hop. As part of the project, the Chios Music Festival will present a series of actions to draw its audience closer to the world of hip hop music.
