The vision behind the Chios Music Festival belongs to two young artists from Chios, who currently live and work in Berlin, Germany: it’s about a decade now that violinist Olga Holdorff Myriangou and composer Eleftherios Veniadis elaborate the idea of a festival that will vest the Chios island of their childhood memories with music, the island with the world-famous Mastic Villages, the labyrinthine medieval settlements, the atmospheric churches, the significant archeological sites, the picturesque squares, the fragrant fields with the citrus fruits and the unique variations of Chios’ landscape. This idea has matured over time and started taking shape through individual cultural events and educational activities for students, in collaboration with the schools of the island.
The great resonance, the enthusiasm and the interest of the people who took part in these events, who embraced and supported them in every possible way, made them gradually grow into a bigger organized structure. That’ s how the Chios Music Festival was born, an international festival that comes just on the right timing as an expression of respect and gratitude, as well as a message of joy and optimism towards all the islands’ inhabitants, both permanent and non-permanent.
The festival’ s main aim is to be established as an institution, a point of reference for Chios, that will make the island even more attractive to visitors, but it will also benefit in practice its permanent inhabitants. For this reason, the festival is divided into two seasons: the summer and the winter season. The winter season will focus on music educational programs.
