Since its inception in 2017, the Chios Music Festival has sought to promote creative coexistence through the universal language of music on this island at the Greek border of the Aegean.

With classical, contemporary, jazz and traditional music concerts, as well as music theatre performances and activities for all ages, it fosters collaboration between professional and amateur musicians, creating interdisciplinary artistic experiences. The Festival’s events take place in iconic locations in Chios, showcasing the island’s cultural and environmental wealth. They are centred around two main events, one taking place in summer and the other in winter. These events keep the public and visitors interested throughout the year, while also highlighting Chios as an attractive cultural destination.

“Chios Resistance”, an Artistic Journey through Memory and History

Commemorating the Liberation of Chios, the 10-year anniversary edition of Chios Music Festival presents “Chios Resistance”, a multifaceted artistic and educational project dedicated to a defining period in the island’s modern history: the German Occupation, the Resistance and the Liberation of Chios (1941–1944). Conceived as an encounter between historical research, collective memory and contemporary artistic creation, the project seeks to illuminate lesser-known aspects of this critical period through personal stories, historical testimonies and archival documentation. At the same time, it aims to create new ways of engaging with local history, bringing it into dialogue with contemporary cultural expression and the younger generations.

Promotion of the landscape of Chios

The Chios Music Festival breathes through our border island. Its existence and inspiration stem from the landscape of Chios and the places associated with its history and culture. For each event, the organisers carefully select the venue in which it will be hosted, taking into account the type and style of the music programme. Unusual or natural spaces occupy a special place in programming, as their atmosphere and architecture become an integral part of the concert experience.
