WITH A UKULELE – CONCERT
COMMYNITY MUSIC PROGRAMME OF THE CHIOS MUSIC FESTIVAL
WED 12 FEB, 19:00
Homerion Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Chios
It is now the second consecutive year that the festival invites Mariza Vamvoukli, community musician, conductor and primary school teacher, and Andrianna Neamoniti, choir conductor, community musician and secondary school teacher, to design and implement a series of educational meetings; an ongoing music workshop that brings together residents and refugees, children and adults, music professionals and amateurs. Since its first year, the Festival has been running the Community Music Programme in collaboration with METAdrasis Non-Formal Education Programme in Chios and UNHCR Greece. For the past three years, the programme’s educational activities have been carried out regularly throughout the year under the direction of Andrianna Neamoniti.
By combining different artistic dynamics and mobilising a wide range of participants, the workshop aims to strengthen the sense of belonging and cultural exchange on the island.
On the 12th of February, the workshop will present a concert of well-known songs for children and adults, opening the programme of this year’s winter event and reminding us, “with a ukulele”, that the Chios Music Festival is inspired by and always returns to the local community.
Musical instruments will be provided to the participants by the Festival.
