SoundRoutes is a project launched in 2017 on the initiative of the Marmaduke production company, based in Seville, Spain and in collaboration with the Italian NGO Un Ponte Per…, the Bologna Jazz Festival, the Berlin Werkstatt der Kulturen and the De Vergunning-De Koer, Gent. The project was supported by the European Union’s “Creative Europe” program. For the first two years, SoundRoutes provided an opportunity for musicians who immigrated to Europe to work in the countries where they now reside, in collaboration with their European colleagues. Various music themes were designed to support them both professionally and socially in their host countries. Concerts were held in private venues, where both local musicians and musicians who immigrated to Europe exchanged experiences and views on art and music traditions. From this meeting emerged a mixed musical ensemble. In 2019, the European Union renewed its support, this time with the participation of the Chios Music Festival. This second stage of the project, which will continue until early 2021, includes various activities such as the mobility program for 64 musicians in Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Greece, as well as various collaborations and concerts in the participating countries.
