Dorothea Stepp

She was born in Stuttgart in 1996 and received her first violin lessons from Ulrike Abdank. She continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Prof. Ina Kertscher, and now studies at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin with Prof. Antje Weithaas. She is the recipient of a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, as a member of the Ensemble Esperanza. She has won awards in many competitions, including the 1st prize at the “Concours FLAME” International Competition in Paris, the 2nd Prize at the “International Hindemith Competition” in Berlin, the “Deutscher Musikwettbewerb” and the “Diethard Wucher” Prize, while in 2010 she won the “Sparkassen-Förderpreis” at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival with her piano quintet. She has participated in major festivals such as the “Brandenburgische Sommerkonzerte” and the Festival Next Generation and has appeared in major theatres, including the “NDR Sendesaal” in Hanover and the “Konzerthaus Berlin”. As a soloist she has collaborated with orchestras such as the Hanover University Orchestra, “Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester” and others.

She plays a Carlo Tononi violin from 1727, on loan to her as a prize-winner of the 2012 “Deutschen Stiftung Musikleben” instrument competition.
