Alexander Kovalev

Born into a family of musicians in Moscow in 1992, Alexander began his musical studies at the esteemed Central Music School in Moscow. Following his graduation at Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf and Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, he concluded his postgraduate studies at UDK Berlin with Professor Jens Peter Maintz. He is the principal cellist of the Staatskapelle Berlin, and throughout his career he has participated in some of the most famous festivals, such as the Eurogio Festival, the Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival, the Yellow Barn, Krzyzowa-Music and the Verbier Festival Academy, where he received the Neva Foundation Award. He has collaborated with famous musicians such as Martha Argerich, Daniel Barenboim and Patricia Kopatchinskaja and at the invitation of maestro Barenboim, Alexander has also become a member of the distinguished “Boulez Ensemble” and he had the opportunity to work with numerous artists such as Lahav Shani, Mathias Pintscher, Jorg Widmann, Pablo Heras-Casado.
