FREE ADMISSION

In the mysterious neighbourhoods of the Castle, which has stood proudly since the 10th century and has hosted many different cultures, from the Byzantines to the Franks and the Ottomans, the Chios Music Festival finds the ideal setting to present this year’s intercultural event, with a series of musical backyard games, curated and coordinated by Regina Saltari, Andrianna Neamoniti and Mitsi Akoyunoglou. This is a Community Music Programme that starts in mid-July with a series of workshops for young and old, locals and refugees, culminating in a fun and interactive event at the Castle. The event will begin in the courtyard of the Ottoman Baths with the presentation of songs by the Community Singing Group of the Chios Music Festival. Immediately afterwards, the children in the workshop will form a circle and play musical games, using sound-mimicking syllables and body percussion. This will be followed by a tour of the various neighbourhoods and corners of the Castle, where all participants are invited to join in and synchronise themselves with the rhythms and sounds of the ensemble, becoming part of one big musical family. This multi-level action aims to increase interaction between multicultural populations and expose them to new cultural practices.
