DIMITRIS SOUKARAS – MONOLOGUES

RECITAL FOR THREE GUITARS & ONE PERFOMER

THU 13 FEB, 21:00

Historic Central Public Library “Koraes” of Chios

The Monologues by Dimitris Soukaras reflect a personal connection to the world around us. It is a recital for three guitars (romantic, classical, electric) and one performer, combining electric and acoustic sounds, early and contemporary compositions. It includes arrangements based on works originally for violin and cello by Johann Sebastian Bach; works by Vicente Asencio paying tribute to the Narciso Yepes repertoire; transcriptions of pieces by Erik Satie and Maurice Ravel; compositions by Roland Dyens and Jorge Cardoso inspired by Latin America; two works dedicated to Dimitris by Leo Brouwer and Belle Chen; and finally, “Reflections of Corea”, arrangements by Dimitris based on the popular “Children’s Songs” by Chick Corea.

Guitarist and composer with numerous international distinctions, Dimitris Soukaras, is considered one of the most important musicians of his generation. He studied at the London Academy of Music, the University of Surrey and the Ionian University. In 2021, he released his first album titled Roots. He has performed with renowned orchestras in Greece and abroad, and has given solo recitals at venues such as King’s Place, London; the Musikverein, Vienna; and the Cervantes Theatre, London. More
