Youth Music Exchange
16–23 August 2026 | Chios
28 September–5 October 2026 | Berlin
A musical and cultural exchange connecting Chios and Berlin and bringing together students and young musicians from Greece and Germany.
A collaboration that is already writing its own history:
In 2021, the Staats- und Domchor Berlin visited Chios as part of the Chios Music Festival and met with students from the Chios Music School.
In March 2023, students from Chios travelled to Berlin, where they met the Girls’ Choir of Sing-Akademie zu Berlin.
In 2026, the exchange continues and expands with the support of the German-Greek Youth Foundation (DGJW/EGIN).
Chios, 16–23 August 2026
As part of the 10th anniversary edition of the Chios Music Festival’s summer programme, more than 50 young singers from Sing-Akademie zu Berlin, together with their artistic director and conductor, Friederike Stahmer, travelled to Chios.
Together with students from the Chios Music School and musicians from Greece and Germany, they took part in joint rehearsals and five concerts at different locations across the island.
The Girls’ Choir of Sing-Akademie zu Berlin is celebrating 20 years of artistic activity this year.
28 September–5 October 2026 | Berlin
The journey continues for the students of the Chios Music School, who, on 28 September, will travel to Berlin for the second part and completion of the exchange programme.
In the German capital, they will participate as guests of Sing-Akademie zu Berlin in a series of events and concerts (29 September, 1–2 October).
On 3 October, as part of the festive service celebrating the Day of German Unity, during which the Vice President of the German Bundestag will address the congregation, the children from Chios and the Girls’ Choir of Sing-Akademie will perform together Messa Latina by Giannis Christou.
Later that day, for an audience expected to exceed two thousand people, the adult choir of Sing-Akademie, the Staats- und Domchor Berlin and many other musicians will perform together.
The choral celebration will then move to the steps of Berlin Cathedral, overlooking the Lustgarten. Here, choirs and visitors will sing together under the motto:
“Sing for Europe!”
The event at Berlin Cathedral will be broadcast live. Click here for the live stream.
At this great celebration, the children of Chios will have the joy of representing Europe!
