APOSTOLOS PALIOS – FOR THE LEFT HAND
A PIANO JOURNEY OF UNPARALLELED VIRTUOSITY
SUN 16 FEB, 20:00
Homerion Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Chios
Apostolos Palios presents, for the first time in Greece, a lesser-known side of the piano repertoire, with works written exclusively for the left hand. A special pianistic journey through compositions by important composers, sometimes characterised by deliberate simplicity, sometimes by exuberance of sound and incomparable virtuosity.
Apostolos Palios was born in Karditsa. “One of the most outstanding pianists of our time” (Aldo Ciccolini) and “an exceptionally gifted musician” (Cyprien Catsaris), he has won prizes in international piano, chamber music and composition competitions in Greece and abroad, and has been honoured by the Athens Academy and the Union of Greek Critics for Drama and Music. As a soloist, he has performed in the world’s most important concert halls (Philharmonie, Berlin; Konzerthaus, Vienna; Carnegie Hall, New York; etc.) and international festivals, and has collaborated with many orchestras (Berliner Symphoniker) and important conductors. He has recorded for Naxos, among others, and has had numerous world premieres in his name. He has been a member of the piano quartet Aurora, the contemporary music group Ergon Ensemble and has taught piano and music performance at the music departments of the University of Macedonia and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. As a musicologist and researcher, he has presented papers and publications in Greek and international conferences, workshops and scientific journals.
